friends in need, friends indeed - August 27, 2008

I just wanted to call everyone's attention to a couple of people in need. Friends of my friends are also my friends, so when Darlene (Ms Rebyll) and Dewayne (Rebel) told me about this burned firefighter and sick baby, both in their NC community, my heart wept. Please visit the website, and if you can help out, please do.

buffalo's acoustic south - May 6, 2008

Buffalo's Acoustic South will debut at Relay for Life, a benefit for The American Cancer Society, at Greer High School Football Stadium in Greer, SC on May 16th at 10 PM.

The Acoustic South is a rotating roster of Southern rockers performing "unplugged" versions of Southern rock and blues classics.

The current lineup features Donnie Winters, founding member of The Winters Brothers Band, 1970s Atco recording artists who toured with Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more.

Tony Heatherly was bassist for The Toy Caldwell Band, appearing on Toy's lone solo album in 1992. Tony also played with The Marshall Tucker Band for several years.

Mark McAfee is a guitar player from Greenville, SC who was raised on Southern Rock, and who currently plays in a band with Donnie Winters.

Rick Godfrey is nothing short of an Upstate legend. A founding member of Capitol Records recording band Garfeel Ruff, Rick has made a huge name for himself in r&b, beach, blues and Southern Rock music.

Don't be surprised if a guest star or two join in. Come early to hear all the music, including our gospel singing friends, Favor at 8 PM.

As a side note, be sure to check out my layest interviews with Delaney Bramlett and Billy Bob Thornton at www.gritz.net.

Hope to see some of you at the Relay for Life!

Keep it Real. Keep it Southern.

another brother passes on - September 10, 2007

It is with a heavy heart that I report the death of another great icon of Southern Rock, Hughie Thomasson.

The founder of The Outlaws and long time member of Lynyrd Skynyrd died at home in Florida yesterday, September 9th, following a heart attack.

We want to send out our prayers and love to all the family and friends of this guitar genius.

Fly on free bird. Heaven must be rockin' today.

billy bob rocks - August 18, 2007

I just have to say Billy Bob Thornton is not only my favorite actor, but this guy can rock and roll, brothers and sisters!

I went down to Myrtle Beach for his show at The House of Blues on Thursday, and he and his band kicked my ass. They came out first as The Fabulous Boxmasters, playing a more "hillbilly" style, before returning to rock the night away.

All of the band and crew made the ol' Buffalo feel welcomed, and I had a stone cold blast. Love ya brother Billy! Woooooo!

Review can be found at www.gritz.net ...

back in macon once again - August 7, 2007

It was back to Macon, Georgia this weekend for a benefit concert for Sid Yoakim, the man who drove the bus for The Allmans as well as The Charlie Daniels Band.

Look for photos in the GALLERY.
